Therapy FAQs
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy can be beneficial for anyone! Whether you are experiencing difficulty navigating life transitions, managing stress, dealing with new or established mental health symptoms, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself. At Honored Truth, having a safe space where the focus is on you, and with therapeutic support aimed at helping you process experiences and build skills to overcome challenges, I believe you can meet your goals, make beneficial changes in your life, and have a clear skillset and understanding of how to move forward in your life.
What should I expect during the consultation and first session?
I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and provide an overview of my therapeutic approach to help determine if we are a good fit. The intake session is a collaborative process where we discuss your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. It’s an opportunity for us to further evaluate if we are a good fit and for you to ask any initial questions about the therapy process and my clinical approach. Please complete a Consult Request form or call 503-436-5663 to schedule your free consultation.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Standard individual therapy sessions typically last about 55 minutes. Frequency is usually once per week in the beginning of therapy and is reduced as you gain skills and notice improvement and progress toward your goals, though this can be adjusted based on your clinical needs and personal progress throughout our work together.
Do you offer virtual therapy options?
Yes, I provide telehealth therapy services for residents throughout Oregon. These virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform to ensure your privacy and convenience from the comfort of your home.
Is therapy confidential?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Everything discussed in session is held in strict confidence, with legally mandated exceptions, which we will review in detail during our first session.
Do I need a referral for therapy?
Your insurance provider determines whether a referral is needed. Please contact your insurance provider to ask and start the process to obtain a referral, if needed. Private pay does not require a referral.
What other services are provided?
Psychological assessments are not currently offered at this time, however, clinical interviews and screenings for ADHD are provided. Gender affirming care and surgical letters may be provided and require completion of the standard intake and an additional clinical interview, which may span over several sessions to obtain relevant information. Couples and family therapy are not currently provided.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, psychologists are not able to prescribed medication in Oregon. I can help you advocate with providers, with a signed release of information completed in advance, and can coordinate with medical providers for care.
